As more alcohol is consumed the sensitive part of the brain gets affected leading to behavioral changes in people. Alcohol anxiety is becoming increasingly popular amongst people who suffer from anxiety disorders.
Many people take to alcohol to decrease their anxieties and worries. This is not the solution to the problem. Overconsumption of alcohol can cause a negative impact on the body. As more alcohol enters into the blood the emotional areas of the brain get affected resulting in anger, agitation, depression etc. it also affects the nerve centers responsible for sexual behavior in a person.
Drinking excessively to relieve anxiety or depression can lead to alcohol anxiety. Over here the person feels more anxious and becomes addicted to alcohol to decrease his anxiety. In the long term, the person can become tolerant to alcohol i.e. he will need a larger dose of alcohol to reduce his anxiety. Moreover, it is very difficult to keep an optimum balance of alcohol to reduce anxiety.
Alcohol anxiety is frequently associated with disturbances of sleep. Many people often opt for alcohol as a temporary solution for their problems. It does not help to ease the pain. Alcohol is a powerful depressant but is not a permanent solution. Alcohol can be addictive and also have a negative impact on one’s physical health. Alcohol anxiety can lead to irregular heart beats, decrease in the blood sugars etc.
Many psychotherapists believe that anxiety is caused due to previous traumas. Avoiding anxiety by resorting to drugs, alcohol or smoking can only help to deaden the pain to some extent, but they cannot make you confront and resolve the source of anxiety.
Excessive drinking can also cause sexual impairment in an individual. This sexual dysfunction is usually characterized by lack of desire, orgasms and even sexual pain. This also causes emotional distress and can also affect the personal relationship of an individual.
Maintaining a limit for the intake of alcohol is almost impossible. The reason is because alcohol stimulates the brain from the first drink itself. Once the effect of alcohol is over, the feelings of anxiety may once again appear. Alcohol anxiety can lead to addiction which in turn can cause serious damage to the liver and other vital organs of the body.
Regular drinking also depletes the neurotransmitter level in the body. Serotonin is an important chemical that is responsible for a person’s moods. A decrease in the serotonin level can cause depression, anxiety stress etc. When this happens, many people turn to drinking to relieve anxiety and depression.
Excessive drinking can be reduced if a person has the will power and determination to stay without alcohol for a few days. Initially it can be a little difficult to start this process, but will the right amount of patience and will power, this can be easily resolved.
